The Office of State Budget and Management (OSBM) recently welcomed John Quinterno as the new State Data Center Coordinator and the Governor’s Census Liaison.
Quinterno has extensive expertise in economic and social policy in North Carolina. Over his career, he conducted numerous applied research projects, in nonprofit, private, and university settings. He has taught graduate-level policy courses at the Duke Sanford School of Public Policy and the UNC School of Government. Quinterno also is the author of a book introducing how to use census and other public data to analyze state and local issues.
The Governor’s Census Liaison, appointed by the Governor, serves as a direct communications channel between the Governor and the U.S. Census Bureau. The Census Liaison also works with state-level stakeholders to better understand, participate in, and use Census programs.
The State Data Center (SDC) is a partnership between the U.S. Census Bureau and the state of North Carolina. The SDC Coordinator’s mission is making demographic, economic, and social data easy to access and use. One of the key initiatives of the North Carolina State Data Center is the Log into North Carolina data platform, or LINC.
“We’re happy to have John contributing his skills to the team,” said State Budget Director Kristin Walker. “His experience will contribute to North Carolina’s effective use of the Census and strength of the State Data Center.”
Quinterno will be working closely with local governments, regional councils of government, and business and community organizations. His analysis on recent Census data releases can also be found on the OSBM blog.
Quinterno has a master’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and his bachelor’s from the University of Notre Dame.
