North Carolina Population Trends

Census Data

At the time of the last decennial census, North Carolina was the tenth largest state in the Union at 9.5 million people. By 2017, there were 10.2 million people in North Carolina and the state had become the ninth largest state. If this trend continues, then North Carolina’s population will reach 10.6 million people by the next decennial census in 2020 – resulting in at least one additional Congressional seat.
