This week, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University senior internal auditor LaShonna Frederick was awarded the 2023 Internal Audit Award of Excellence during the annual North Carolina Office of the State Controller’s Financial Conference.

The North Carolina Council of Internal Auditing selected Ms. Fredrick as the winner following a review of award nominations submitted by state agencies and universities.

Frederick has worked at N.C. A&T in an internal auditing capacity for the past 26 years. She is known as a team player who has twice served as Acting Internal Audit Director and helped fill in when the office was short-staffed.

During her years with N.C. A&T, she’s worked to create a culture of trust and collaboration between internal audit and university peers.  Frederick serves on multiple university committees where she helps make improvements and reduce risk. She has also improved the efficiency of internal auditing at the school by helping select and implement new audit management software.

“Her passion and love for both internal auditing and our university is displayed daily and is reflected in her actions and the work she produces,” said Kevin J. Thomas, MBA, CFE, internal audit director in the Office of Internal Auditing. “I wanted her to be recognized for everything she has done for the university and how she approaches all challenges, tasks, and obstacles with a positive demeanor.”
