The North Carolina Office of State Budget and Management (OSBM) is advocating for development of a new certification program for state budget professionals. To execute the program, OSBM is accepting applications from state institutions for delivery of an in-person and/or online curriculum that provides current and aspiring budget professionals the foundational skills and knowledge to succeed as a state budget professional. OSBM will accept applications from interested institutions until February 28, 2023.
Training and career advancement opportunities for state budget professionals are key to enhancing excellence and retention in state budget offices. A Certified State Budget Professional Program will help North Carolina establish a clear path for state budget professionals to advance their skills and career.
OSBM has worked with an advisory board of state chief financial officers, budget directors, and others to create a framework for certification for state budget professionals. More information can be found in the application.
The tentative program timeline would allow for the first courses to be offered in fall 2023 with courses being added until the full list of course offerings is available in fall 2025.
OSBM plans to host a networking event for interested potential providers. This will be an opportunity for OSBM to share about information and for potential providers to identify possible opportunities for collaboration.
