Office of State Budget & Management Senior Analyst Jonathan Meyer and NC Director of Policy and Strategic Planning Catherine Moga Bryant were featured panelists in Harvard Kennedy School’s Government Performance Lab’s Stimulus Learning Series. The pair joined representatives from Maine and Maron County, Indiana in discussing the challenges and opportunities for government-driven workforce development solutions.

The learning session, entitled “Developing a durable workforce system for the future,” explored current challenges, workforce barriers in the time of COVID-19, and how federal relief funding can be leveraged to address those challenges.  Many of the solutions highlighted by Moga Bryant and Meyer were included in Governor Cooper’s American Rescue Plan Recommendations this spring. These proposals focus on connecting people to jobs in growing segments of the economy and training to adapt to in-demand skillsets or jobs that have been rapidly evolving during the pandemic.

A recording of the webinar is available from the Harvard Kennedy School’s Government Performance Lab on their website. The program was part of a larger Stimulus Learning Series at the Government Performance Lab. The series is focused on providing state and local governments with models, case studies, and approaches for addressing needs in their jurisdictions. The goal is to help the public sector drive impact with federal American Rescue Plan funding.
