The Council of Internal Auditing is now accepting nominations for the prestigious Internal Auditing Award of Excellence. The annual award honors and expresses appreciation to a state auditor or a group of auditors who have made extraordinary contributions and achievements in internal auditing and service to North Carolina.

Nominees for the award must demonstrate extraordinary efforts in the areas of dedication, contribution, and innovation in the field of internal auditing. Anyone can nominate an individual or a group of state auditors by submitting an application by October 1, 2021 to internalauditinfo@osbm.nc.gov.

The winner will be honored during the State Controller’s Financial Conference in December with a commentative plaque and a $500 prize, donated by the North Carolina Local Chapters of the Institute of Internal Auditors.

To be eligible, nominees must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Individuals must be or have been a state of North Carolina employee
  • Full-time, part-time, or time-limited employees are eligible
  • A recently deceased, retired, or employee on leave-without-pay may be nominated provided they were employed with the state during the award year
  • Individuals who were nominated but did not receive the North Carolina Internal Audit Award for Excellence will automatically be nominated in a succeeding year if the above eligibility requirements are met
  • Nominations may be made for an individual or a group

The North Carolina Internal Audit Award of Excellence has been in existence for more than 10 years. Last year’s honorees were the internal audit team of Kwoklin Lee and Cynthia Lu from UNC Health Care.

The award program is administered by the Central Office of Internal Audit at OSBM.  Detailed information about the award and award guidelines are available on the OSBM website.
