Active Partnerships

The Strategic Partnerships office is engaged in a growing list of collaborative projects with state agencies, external research partners including research institutions and colleges/universities, community partners, philanthropy, and others. Some of these projects we are working on directly and others we have catalyzed and found research expertise to support.

All of these partnership projects aim to improve policies and programs for the benefit of all North Carolinians.

Strengthening the State Government Talent Pipeline

Strengthening the State Government Talent Pipeline

This project addresses the related challenges of:

  1. state government striving to attract talent for employment opportunities across the state, and
  2. talented college and university graduates striving to find and pursue state government employment opportunities.

A focus of this project is to broaden and enhance information-sharing and communication between state government recruitment and university/college-based career services. We have developed a database of contacts and other relevant information for North Carolina’s 110 institutions of higher education and state agencies.

Partners on this project include the NC Office of State Human Resources, NC OSHR-College/University Partnership group, state agency recruiters, and college/university career services professionals.

Reentry

Reentry

This project aims to identify and increase knowledge and awareness of reentry resources across the state, especially in the 80 counties that do not have a local reentry council. This "reentry landscape scan" will include 1) reentry contacts in all 100 counties and 2) recommended strategies to build capacity and support local reentry efforts throughout NC.

Understanding the reentry ecosystem in each community, particularly the resources available and gaps in services or coordination, will help the state and partners develop more tailored strategies for supporting people as they transition from incarceration back into communities. This project will also inform state and local partners about the challenges and opportunities communities are facing with reentry during COVID-19.

Partners on this project include the NC Department of Public Safety, Attorney General's office, State Reentry Council Collaborative, Three Flights LLC, and others.

Fair and Empowering Tax Collections

Fair and Empowering Tax Collections

This project focuses on learning why people/businesses do not pay their taxes and testing whether modified Department of Revenue (DOR) collections communications can maximize the timely and fair collection of owed state taxes and decrease the need for enforcement measures.

Partners on this project include the NC Department of Revenue, researchers from the Center for Advanced Hindsight (Duke University), a UNC Law School Professor, and the Policy Lab @ Brown University.
